Our 9 Frames - Final

These are our final 9 frames that serve the purpose of summing up our film. The shots include some of our integrated credits and capture the essence of the horror/thriller genre and the comedy.

The colouration and particularly the lack of saturation in the first 7 frames hints at a more sinister feel, giving a more clinical and sterile atmosphere to the beginning of our opening. This coupled with the use of the blood and the vulnerability of the character in the underwater shots, creates a sense of unease and shows that the film opening is definitely unsettling. the long shot of the bath also gives the audience a feel that they are not supposed to be there, enhancing the feel of unease and eery ambiguity.
we chose to include the shot with the toilet roll as this starts to hint at comedy genre as the idea of the toilet roll is very comedic and seen in certain styles of comedy and therefore leads the audience to subconsciously believe that there will be a twist (see reaction video). The font and handwriting style used also hints to this as the style is certainly used more often in a comedy.
The saturation of the last two frames is however unchanged from original filming and therefore gives the sense of change in genre and also the reality and the verisimilitude behind the comedic side, further enhancing the strangeness and the ridiculousness of the thriller section of the film. The idea that the title is written in ketchup also highlights the comedy as it is a mockery of the traditional thriller genre (which is the basis of our film anyway) as the ketchup usually symbolises low budget blood, and also adds humour in that it relates the whole opening to food (much like in Napoleon Dynamite).
